Wedding gifts for creative couples

What is it with towels and flannels on a wedding gift list? I like a new fluffy towel don't get my wrong, but for a wedding present, really? And as for a flannel, just the word  f l a n n e l  brings me out in a cold sweat, so why would I want a set from our mates to say Happy Wedding?!? Personally I enjoy remembering who each of our gifts was from, and when I use it I feel happy knowing our friends chose it for us - the relevance of their choice makes me smile.

A couple of examples; measuring spoons from old family friends with the message "Happy spooning" - nice little double entendre I thought, and lovely spoons too - the baby spoon is for measuring a 'pinch'!

This Perspex cube light from one of my husbands colleagues who lives in Dubai, it's bright, it's bold and it reminds me that we're all about making a statement when it comes to interiors in our house.

Phaidon Atlas of contemporary world architecture

And there should always be a wedding present that's a bit of a luxury, something you know isn't essential but you just really want it. For us that was an enormous book called The Phaidon Atlas Contemporary World of Architecture, possibly the ultimate when it comes to coffee table books, as long as we've got a coffee table big enough and the children haven't got jam on their fingers. We love design and architecture books, and the friends who bought it for us now live in New York, all-in-all very apt.

I remember putting our wedding list together and having loads of fun, it's like shopping but better. We used a list company called Wrapit, luckily before they went bust! Here's a round-up of the best online wedding list companies, I can't personally recommend them but if I was getting married these would be my faves:
